Please Help! I need to learn how to fix a black child's hair.?

My brother and his wife adopted my niece as a newborn three years ago. We have been fixing her hair in what I call "afro puffs" which is really cute but she can't do that forever. I am a licensed cosmetologist but I was never taught how to style ethnic hair.

We live in an area that is pretty much all white. There isn't any hair salons that do black peoples hair in my area either. I have even called the cosmetology school that I attended to see if they had some suggestions as to where I could go to learn how to take care of my nieces hair and they weren't any help.

I have bought a few books trying to learn on my own. I bought The Curly Girl's Handbook (which was very good for me since I have naturally curly hair but not so good for Haylee) and I also bought It's All Good Hair. It's pretty good but I'm still kind of clueless.

The few black people that live in my town (Smithville, TN) try to be very helpful but I'm usually more confused than ever. Please give me some advice.

it basically depends on what your trying to do. im sure you know that black hair is very different from white hair and uses different chemicals and products to take care of it properly. i would suggest ordering ethnic hair products online if there aren't any places to get them where u live. try KeraCara hair products they re made for black hair and work really well. also dont wash her hair everyday, that dries it out. and you could just play around with different styles.
